A video has been released by the US Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) showing how a vessel destroyed Syrian chemical weapons at sea.
The 22,735-dwt ro-ro Cape Ray (built 1977) underwent modifications that converted it into a floating arms destruction facility last year.
The three-part video series shows how MARAD’s specially-trained personnel neutralised almost 500,000 litres of chemical agent.
This was the first time that the US had converted chemical materials at sea into liquid compounds.
