Armed guards have repelled a suspected attempt by pirates to attack the Maersk Alabama on Tuesday.
The suspicious approach of the 1,098-teu vessel is at least the second time it has been threatened by pirates since it was briefly hijacked in 2009 before US forces stepped in and shot three captors dead.
A suspicious craft was seen approaching the US-flagged boxship some time on Tuesday closer to Madagascar that the Seychelles, informed sources say.
