Lawmakers on a key congressional committee have rejected an effort to require that US LNG exports leave the country on ships built at domestic shipyards, although another proposal to study the requirement in an alternative form remains in the bill.
Representative John Garamendi, a Democrat from California and an outspoken advocate of US-flag shipping, had proposed an amendment to the Coast Guard and Marine Transportation Bill to spur LNG-carrier building at US yards.
