VLCC rates are picking up globally as volumes hold up, but owners of scrubber-fitted vessels are seeing their advantage shrink, analysts said.

Fearnley Securities said Middle East cargo flow "remains healthy", with 133 stems lifted in February, down from 145 the month before.

Rates for tankers heading from Atlantic ports to Asia were boosted by all-time high numbers from the North Sea and the Antwerp/Rotterdam/Amsterdam (ARA) area, as well as a rebound in West Africa.
