Major refiners and a trading firm are said to have sought out at least five products tankers for the US coastwise trade in the 11-day slot allowed under the waiver of US Jones Act.
The waivers came in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, which battered much of the US Gulf Coast and caused gasoline shortages as tanker movements were halted to the import dependent state of Florida.
