The Dubai-headquartered Pakistani shipowner booked the 64,000-dwt eco-design vessels at China Shipbuilding Industry Corp, the company confirmed.

Tomini did not reveal a price for the swoop however TradeWinds reported last week that Turkey’s Kiran Holding picked up eight ultramax slots at China’s Zhejiang Yangfan Shipyard at $27m apiece.

Delivery of the vessels is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2015, Tomini says.

Clarksons lists the company as the owner of a single 1994-built aframax tanker.

Tomini has in the past owned 50 bulkers up to capesize and has been in the market for opportunities to return to the sector.
