CR Ocean Engineering said the owner had bought two cleaning systems for the 12,600-dwt Stena Forerunner (built 2003).
They will be fitted to its two main engines to allow it to keep using regular bunkers.
The systems will reduce sulphur emissions to below the 0.1% specified by rules that came into force on 1 January, CR said.
They are scheduled to be operational in the first half of 2015.
