The global boxship fleet is set to receive more than one million teu in additional capacity over the next two years as new ultra large containerships are delivered, potentially upsetting the supply-demand balance across trade routes.

The cascade of containerships of more than 14,000 teu is expected to be disproportionately felt on trade routes between Asia and the Mediterranean, and the transpacific, Asia and Middle East, according to ClipperMaritime’s monthly report Horizons.
