A Japanese-backed design for an LNG-powered coal carrier has secured approval in principle (AIP) from Lloyd’s Register.
The design concept is being backed by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), Tohoku Electric Power Co and Namura Shipbuilding Co.
The three companies say they have finished the basic design and recently conducted a Hazard Identification Study (HAZID) into the concept.
