It is alleged that the 54-year-old captain abandoned the ship before many of the passengers had been rescued during a shipwreck that claimed 32 lives in 2012.
Prosecutor Maria Navarro told the court that Schettino has lied to everyone, has never accepted responsibility and no elements have emerged in his favour.
She called for the captain to serve 14 years behind bars for multiple manslaughter, nine years for causing a shipwreck, three years for abandoning the vessel and three months for failing to contact the authorities when the accident happened.
