The 35-year-old Greek second officer can be held for up to four weeks after a court granted a police request for his detention.
The man was arrested on the 172,000-dwt Anangel Explorer (built 2007) on 13 October on suspicion of murdering a missing Ukrainian woman aged in her early 30s.
Anangel managing director John Platsidakis said the vessel arrived in Narvik on 6 October to load iron ore.
